Poem - Agnes Littlejohn

Advance, Australia!
By Agnes Littlejohn

“Awake! Arise! O from thy slumber wake!
Advance to meet the legions of the world
Thy place beside thy brothers rise and take,
Fling o’er thy shoulders banners now unfurled!”

And, opening her eyes, she heard the call—
She shook her mighty arms above her head,
Aroused from slumber; let them clashing fall,
Straightway arising, forth her soldiers led,

They joined the armies of the Motherland!
Shoulder to shoulder, side by side they toil—
And loyally flows the blood of that brave band,
Grim efforts of a dastard foe to foil!

And she shall share War’s honours with them now,
For she has won her standing and her fame—
And all the world in wonderment shall bow
In recognition of Australia’s name!
